Nadia I don't think there is much of a system in Egypt. However you can often find used unlocked 900Mhz phones on eBay. Any Ericson Phone that starts with the letter G (GF388, GF688,GH...) is a GSM 900 phone. Alternatively get a 900/1900Mhz phone which will work in both the USA and most of the rest of the world, such as a T28W, Motorola L7X89, IH888.....

I don't think there is much of a system in Egypt. What makes you say that? They have two GSM 900 carriers and most of the places where people live are covered. That's mostly along the Nile and the coast. If you are out in the desert you need a satellite phone. Last time I checked the Egyptian carriers charged something above $150 to set up service, so it's not something you want to do if you are going there for a week.
