carriers and plans in the US, but now, their URL just rolls over to some wireless dealer using the same name. I need a nice, basic service with the quality of wire line, full long distance, no, or small roaming charges, voice mail and caller ID. and possibly a direct digital data connection. or, am I dreaming

carriers and plans in the US, but now, their URL just rolls over to some wireless dealer using the same name. I'm thinking of replacing my $31.00/month landline with cel-only service, and need to find one that will provide the same functionality for the same, or a lower price. Also, is there any way to stop an unwanted call from ringing without turning the phone off? Most of my incoming calls are just annoying telemarketers, and the last thing I want to do is pay for receiving theire damn spam. The same goes for text messaging, which I definitely don't want due to the spam problem. I need a nice, basic service with the quality of wire line, full long distance, no, or small roaming charges, voice mail and caller ID. and possibly a direct digital data connection. or, am I dreaming

I thought about getting rid of my landline too. But I kept it, as I cannot depend on my cellular phone 24x7 like I can my landline. And if I needed to call 911, and the cell system was failing, it would be a lifesaver. For now, I'm keeping my landline, however I use my cell phone more often. And I know of companies that require a landline number when you apply for a job, credit, or buy something. They will not accept a cell phone number as your main phone. How would they know it was a cell phone, unless you tell them. There is one cell phone company in Canada that's obtained CLEC status and is promoting their service as an alternative to a wired phone. Someone asks for your phone number and you give them your cell phone number. It shouldn't go any further than that.
