My brother in law swears by it...uses it daily.  He uses golden raisens, don't know if that makes a difference though.  He was developing severe arthritis in the knuckles of his hands and they were terribly swollen and painful to the point that his doctor had him on medication (I don't know what).  Then he heard about the raisens/gin thing, tried it and within a couple of days the swelling and pain had almost completely left his hands.  He now keeps a glass jar of the stuff on the counter all the time and eats about 2 tsps. of the raisens daily, once in the morning and once at night.  He's an Orthodontist and very health conscious, so he didn't want to be on medication...besides the gin is more fun...isn't it martini time?

: Lore 'round these yonder parts of the woods says that 2 or 3 gin soaked : raisins a day helps arthiris aching. Sumthin 'bout the juniper berry : gives feel good effects. Some elders swear by it. Some youngins laugh. : Any r.f.c. kinfolk hear or try of such? Paul Harvey has mentioned this a number of times on his syndicated news program.  It is supposed to be only the golden raisins that work. Jim

Michael, it DOES work...I know, I have a touch of arthritis.         When it kicked in I started eat my 3 gin-soaked raisins. It         took me a couple of weeks to feel the effects (taking them         every day). I KNOW it sounds silly, but they really do work.         My girlfriend got a big kick out of my hoochie raisins ...         that's what she calls them. She made wisecracks like, has         Carl gotten into your raisins yet? or I can just picture         Carl, sitting on the kitchen floor, with your bowl between         his legs, sucking all the booze out of each raisin and         sticking them back into the bowl so's I wouldn't know he'd         been into them. She cracked me up!           She has arthritis too and wouldn't try it...thought it was a big        joke. Well, I HAD to send her some.  I put some into one of the         larger baby food jars, cleaned off the label and wrote         Dovie's Hoochie Raisins ob the side and sent it to her at work.         She left it on her desk for a long time before trying them. Of         course it prompted MANY jokes and wisecracks.  Well,         the bottle's empty (at work), but she's eating them at home now.         Her arthritis was worse than mine. I think her aversion to trying         it was the fact that the raisins are gin-soaked. One you let them         ferment the allotted time, you don't taste the gin at all. And         NO, you won't get drunk from them...I mean, 3 raisins a day? :]         Try it...it works!         Linda Magee/BDT Burbank, CA (USA)                 (aka BZ Baker)          (                                       ) ( )         Email: This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it   .....                                                          .:::::::::.                                            ~_______/~

Michael, it DOES work...I know, I have a touch of arthritis.        When it kicked in I started eat my 3 gin-soaked raisins. It        took me a couple of weeks to feel the effects (taking them        every day). I KNOW it sounds silly, but they really do work. Years ago, I asked my herbalism teacher for advice on a medical condition.  Basically, excess calcium was building up on one of the bones in my leg and stretching out the ankle and knee joints.  It was very painful on occasion.  She had never heard of the condition and rather cautiously advised using the treatment for kidney stones, on the theory that misplaced calcium is misplaced calcium.   Now, in theory, one wineglassfull of beet juice per day, no more than 6 days in a row, sounds easy.  I didn't have a juicer, so she recommended grating one medium-size beet and one medium-size apple together and eating them.   Apparently, the pectin in the apple draws out the desired properties from the beet.  Too much work.  I peeled and quartered the beet, quartered the apple, and ate them.  After three days, my leg hurt so much I stopped the treatment.  I was visiting my mother shortly after this.  She looked at my knee and gasped.   You've got a normal sized knee!  What happened? I went through all of the above.  She tried it out on my dad, whose finger joints were enormously swollen from arthritis.  He found it helpful.  His fingers never returned to normal, but he was able to grip with his fingers again. This is not a pre_script_ion.  I am not a doctor.  This is what happened to me, and if it was psychosomatic, I don't care! Val
