I've gotten tired of my expensive traditional Alltel cell phone plan, and I now in the process of switching to AT&T Free2Go prepaid plan. I would like to transfer my existing cell phone number. I've found lots of information saying that you cannot transfer a pre-paid number to a regular plan, but nothing about the opposite. Is it possible to move a regular cell phone number to a prepaid, and if so, how to initiate it? Speaking of which, I'd like to sell my old Alltel cell phone. I was told that since it is an old model and doesn't have GPS, whoever buys it won't be able to activate it. This seems odd to me- Would this be true? And are there any tricks besides shutting off the service to getting the old phone ready to sell on Ebay? Thanks!

I remember reading in the paperwork that came with my phone (Virgin Wireless pre-paid) that my number can be ported in one direction only.  I think from the prepaid account to a 'regular' account but not the other way.  I'm sure you service provider can answer the question in regards to your specific plan.

And release its <something number, the one that's unique to the phone. If the new owner can't authorize the phone he's going to be really pissed.
