Best carrier is almost TOTALLY dependent on location.  And, until every carrier covers every square foot of the country, it will remain so. No one expects any carrier to cover every square foot. People that value ubiquitous coverager will choose a carrier that at least provides the largest amount of coverage possible, whether it is native or roaming. With Cingular and AT&T converting to GSM, in most areas of the country Verizon is now the only choice for people that want the best possible coverage, even if they have to pay roaming charges on occasion. Someday GSM may come close, but it's a long way off.
