writes: I wanted to alter the package but the sub is in my girlfriends name (even though its on my CC) - hence what I assume to be the reason for extra security At least they let you do this. My Dad had a Freeserve Anytime account, which I paid for with my credit card. When the credit card expired, I phoned FS with the new expiry date so that he could continue having the service. But as soon as the FS bloke on the phone realised that I was not my Dad, he refused to make any changes to the account information, despite the fact that it was *my* credit card. He said if he made any changes, he would lose his job. In fact he wanted me to tell my Dad my credit card details, and then get my Dad to phone up with this information. When I said that I didn't think my credit card company would be very pleased with me giving out my card details to someone else, he suggested that I phone up again but next time pretend to be my Dad! If he actually did that, with the card he would more likely of lost his job. since that would become FRAUD . What the actual solution to the problem would of been this. You called up saying my dad is in the room and has authorise me to speak to you. (can pass the phone to him for a moment to give password details, etc..) Than you say right I want to give my credit card details, and the way you go.

With your credit card you could order goods (or services) for and have them delivered to whoever you please. They don't have to be for you.

I know i'll be hated for this comment but what the heck, Has anyone considered the fact that it's a genuine security measure, A mobile phone number would probably weaken security not strengthen it. This is because: a) Lots of people can't remember their own telephone numbers. b) Other people can obtain the number with relative ease What is a call centre meant to do when 30% of genuine callers can't even pass the security check? They either have to refuse people access to their own accounts causing untold anger plus higher call centre charges dealing with it or they let them through anyway. The net result is a weaker, more expensive system than if they never bothered.

This is not true. From the Telephone Preference Service website (www.tpsonline.org.uk): = = Registration will prevent organisations who regard you as a = customer from contacting you again, unless you have previously told = them that you have no _object_ion to them calling you. Yes, you can explicitly remove permission from them. There is also the issue of the Data Protection Act of 1998 where companies who hold your details must issue you with a Fair Collection Notice about your details each year. I've been with SKY for well over a decade now and am still waiting.
